Some of Us Did Not Die: New and Selected Essays
Published in Paperback by BasicCivitas Books (08 May, 2003)
Author: June Jordan
Average review score:

A luminous voice that is missed...
June Jordan was many things: woman, Mother, friend, poet activist essayist. She excelled, apparantly, at each. She died earlier this year from breast cancer. She left us this final testament, a group of essays that touch on allof her abiding concersn: race, poetry, feminism, anit-semitism, The plight of the Palestinian refugees, breast cancer, militarism, rape[agonizingly, she had been rapes. Twice!},Martin Luther King, Jr. and his womanising...She touched on each of these subjects in essays, rails about the lack of spending in research in breast cancer, goes to a LA synagogue for Shabbat service after a psychotic gunmen had opened fire at a Jewish day care centre, speaks about her son and his childhood friend, Daniel Pearl, who had been brutally murdered in pakistan, wonders aloud about the racial implication of the 2000 election and the curiopus way it was handled in Fla., speaks on rape in blunt, terrifying fashion. June jordan was a superb writer, and a better human being. the world is emptier without her light and wisdom, though as succor we have her essays and poems, for which I, for one, am so damn grateful. Highly recommended

Spanish Still Life from Velazquez to Goya
Published in Hardcover by National Gallery Publications (January, 1995)
Author: William B. Jordan
Average review score:

this is the point of still life
Spanish Still Life is the catalogue that accompanied a National Gallery, London, exhibition of 1995. To be honest, I've mostly skipped the text in favor of dropping my jaw (check out Juan Sanchez Cotan) in response to the images, which prove how important and radical a genre still life was from 1600 through Goya (1746-1828). There is plenty here to fuel the fires of romantics, painters, photographers, logicians, dreamers, minimalists, environmentalists, animal activists, and those enamored with the domestic sphere. Still life, in this age, was not humble. It was intimate, political, religious, intellectual and incredibly visceral. I missed the show, but I have the book. Small comfort, perhaps, yet I would rescue this book from a burning house.

The Story of Big Bone Lick
Published in Hardcover by Thoroughbred Pub (November, 1998)
Authors: Nancy J. Blackmore, Mark McFerron, and Nancy Jordan Blackmore
Average review score:

GREAT HISTORICAL STORY WITH GOOD MESSAGES
This story is "fun" to read and sensitive..one in which you can learn the true facts about these Pleistocene animals of our past. You will become attached to the personalities and end up with a favorite character..meanwhile you are learning. It is a great educational tool that makes the educational part about this time period easy. Weaved through out the entire novel are several strong "value" messages ( such as respect your elders ) that the characters promote to the readers. Ones that all parents / teachers utilize day to day with their children or students. The Author has stuck a nerve with the reader in that the over-all theme of " no one wants to be forgotten "applies to everyone. Bottom line, this book should be required reading for the earlier school years ( 3rd-5th grade ). I recommend it as a must read for parents and children that enjoy books.

Studies in the Archaeology of the Iron Age in Israel and Jordan (Jsot Supplement Series, Vol 331)
Published in Hardcover by Sheffield Academic Pr (October, 2001)
Authors: Amihay Mazar, Ginny Mathias, Amihai Mazar, and England) Institute of Jewish Studies (London
Average review score:

A scholarly, academic analysis
Edited by Amihai Mazara (Professor of Archaeology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem), Studies In The Archaeology Of The Iron Age In Israel And Jordan is an impressive compendium of scholarly, academic analysis. This scholarly text is divided into three parts: Settlement Patterns and Landscape Archaeology; Temples, Cult and Iconography; and Aspects of Material Culture. Occasional black-and-white illustrations and photographs of artifacts dot the serious, thoughtful, and heavily researched text. The contributors surveying spatial archaeology and settlement patterns include Adam Zertal (Samaria), Avi Ofer (Judah), Gunnar Lehmann (the Akko Plain), and Shimon Gibson (the Hill country). Religion and iconography are surveyed by Avraham Brian and Ze'ev Herzog (temples at Dan and Arad), Raz Kletter and Kay Prag (clay figurines and other cult objects), Tallay Ornan (seals and pendants portraying Ishtar), and Norma Franklin (iconography of the wall relief in Room V at Sargon's Palace in Khorsabad), Amihai Mazar (Iron Age II Beth Shean), Margreet Steiner (urban development in Jerusalem during Iron Age II), Piotr Beinkowski and Leonie Sedman (Busayra, the capital of Edom). Studies In The Archaeology Of The Iron Age In Israel And Jordan is a core addition for any academic and archaeological reference collection devoted to ancient history in the Middle East.

Substitue Lover
This is one of my favorite Penny Jordan novels. Gray and Stephanie have been friends since she was a teenage. He has loved her all that time, without her realizing that its her love and friendship that he has always desired. Stephanie trys to save Gray from a bad situation by being his Substitute Lover. This is a definetly a must have Penny Jordan book.

The Sunflower Forest: Ecological Restoration and the New Communion with Nature
Published in Hardcover by University of California Press (June, 2003)
Author: III William R. Jordan
Average review score:

The Sunflower Forest
Ecological restoration has often been viewed as either a fringe hobby -- a few aficionados re-creating a patch of prairie on weekends -- or as a distraction from the vital and politically charged work of preserving more or less undisturbed landscapes. But William R. Jordan III argues that it's vital to the preservation of the Earth's ecosystems, and to ourselves. Jordan, founder of the journal Ecological Restoration, writes that restoration is "a way of achieving an ecologically close relationship with the rest of nature," as well as "a context for confronting the most troubling aspects of our relationship with our fellow creatures." The Sunflower Forest is an important book about a practice that is, in coming years, bound to become one of the most important ways we deal with our surroundings. Thanks to Jordan's wide-ranging intellect and compelling writing, it's also a great pleasure to read.

Taking It to Extremes
Published in Paperback by CeShore Publishing Company (01 August, 2000)
Author: Joyce Jordan Lehman
Average review score:

An Enlightening Journey
This book is a very gutsy account of a women's inspiring journey to let go of a physically and mentally abusive relationship and her relationship with God that ultimately, she believes, healed her. I found this book very moving. It is not a blame book. The author recognizes her contributions and explains that she made choices that both contributed to the continuation of the abuse and to stopping it. I found many of her points of view intriguing expecially how she believed God turned her life around. It is a book about responsibility and looking for the good in life. Thumbs up!
